3 Simple Tips to Refresh Your Home This Spring

You guys how is it already MARCH?! While January seemed to last forever + a day, I’m pretty sure I blinked and February was gone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not complaining. March means Spring is basically upon us and warm weather is right around the proverbial corner and I. Am. So. Ready. for the sunnier days to stick around.

You know what else March means? It’s time to switch up that decor and boot Winter out the door! Yay!

If you’re here reading this today then that means you’re probably feeling the itch to breathe some fresh life into your home, and these simple tips will get you there. Below I’m sharing the approaches that I always use when it’s time to change things up at our house, without having to spend a ton of money. All ideas are budget friendly and can be done this afternoon! Check them out!

Tip #1: Switch It Up

This method is about using what you already have and making it work better in your home and in your life. You can do this so many different ways! It could be as simple as pulling your cookbooks out to display on the open shelving in your kitchen. Or trading the artwork over your bed with the piece from the living room. You’d be amazed at how something so small can make such a large impact on your daily life. Maybe putting those cookbooks out on display allows you to be reminded of your grandmother who gave you the one on the bottom and how she always made the best homemade biscuits. What a great memory to think back on while you’re making your coffee in the morning, right?

Make sure your home is set up so that it serves you in both practical (the cookbooks are now in plain sight so you’ll be more likely to use them) and mindful (thoughts of your grandmother boost your mood) ways.

Tip #2 : Take It Away

This method is less about de-cluttering and more about simply coming to terms with the items you have in your space. For this I want to you to take a long hard look around you in whatever room you’re in. Really take it all in. The lamp in the corner, the old DVDs on your shelf, the plant that needs watering – go take care of that before you forget again, I’ll wait – the decor piece next to the TV that you bought when you first moved out on your own that you haven’t really liked in years. You get the idea.

Now, I want you to be 100% honest and ask yourself: if you were in the store looking at those things today, would you spend your hard earned money on them? Are they serving any purpose in your home or do you still enjoy seeing them every day? Do they reflect the style/vibe that you want in your space? You can start small here but choose a few decor items that either no longer suit your style or no longer serve any purpose in your home and get rid of them. Whether it be 3 things or 30, removing them will put you a step in the right direction of curating your best space.

Take this one room at a time and really start to cull through your collection of things. Once you’ve parred down to only the items that truly make you happy or serve a purpose, it will feel like a whole new space that you love to spend time in again.

Tip #3: Bring Nature In

Y’all knew this one was coming. It’s no secret that I love having plants in my home. Whether you’re a fellow plant lady or someone who has a notorious black thumb, I promise, there is a plant out there for you – and yes, it might just be a fake one. For this tip, you could go for the latest in trendy house plants (looking at you, Fiddle Leaf Fig) or simply a fresh bouquet of flowers from your backyard or the grocery store. Either way, plants bring so much life into a room and can make a huge impact without you having to spend a ton of money.
I’ve heard people say before that they don’t think plants will mix well with their decor style but in my opinion, it really doesn’t matter what your home decor style is, plants will literally look great in any style home. Plus, there’s the added bonus: if you keep living plants in your home, they will help to clean the air inside the house! Anything multi-functional + stylish is a win in my book! Now go venture out to your local nursery and find one that speaks to you, or check out my post on house plants if you’re just starting out and looking for something easy to care for.
